Yuma, Arizona – Jon Cristofori and Kathleen Sinclair, Artistic Directors for Ballet Yuma, today announced programming for the company’s 2014–2015 season celebrating 20 years of calling Yuma home. Ballet Yuma continues its legacy as Yuma’s premier performing arts experience, commissioning, producing, and presenting the very best in ballet and contemporary dance.
Embracing a diversity in programming that is their hallmark, Ballet Yuma dancers will kick off their 20th Anniversary season in December, once again captivating audiences with the magical holiday classic, “The Nutcracker”. In March of 2015, the company will premiere a playful re-imagining of the classic Grimm’s fairy tale “Hansel & Gretel”, along with a striking blend of classical and contemporary selections choreographed by commissioned professionals from across the country. May 2015 will take Ballet Yuma dancers on the road to Sacramento, California where they will represent Yuma as the only Arizona company at Regional Dance America’s Pacific Festival, and where they are ranked as one of the top-tier pre-professional companies in the nation. May 2015 also brings back the much-loved “Etudes & Excerpts”, an annual event showcasing Yuma Ballet Academy students, ages 3 through 17, in a demonstration of the technical and artistic skills acquired throughout the year.
All Yuma performances will take place at Snider Auditorium with the exception of Etudes & Excerpts, which will be presented at Kofa High School Auditorium. We are now offering the convenience of online ticket sales for “The Nutcracker” and “Hansel & Gretel”, a new service that the company is very excited to extend to the community this year. Tickets for “Etudes & Excerpts” will be available at Yuma Ballet Academy.
“I’m excited and very proud to celebrate my second season with Ballet Yuma, and to be a part of presenting the work of both cutting-edge choreographers and those who have inspired audiences
for generations,” says Jim Hall, Sr., Executive Director for Ballet Yuma. “We have the classical flavor of Tchaikovsky, a diverse selection of works created by contemporary young choreographers who happen to be Ballet Yuma alumni, as well as our world premiere of Hansel & Gretel. We are also presenting a wonderful program of children’s shows that we will take directly into the schools, to include the whimsical and really fun production of Peter & the Wolf. In honor of our 20th Anniversary and all of our Ballet Yuma alumni, we are going to be offering an exclusive event during The Nutcracker at which we will be recognizing and celebrating all of our alumni. They are the foundation of what Ballet Yuma is today, and we couldn’t be any prouder of their role in our history. It will also offer Yuma patrons an elegant evening of the arts and a night out on the town to really kick off their holiday season in style. It’s going to be a fantastic season for me, for our dancers, and for all of our fans and supporters.”
